The Break

Sidi Kaouki is an exposed beach break with a sandy bottom. There are lefts and rights along the beach, and the peaks move with the sandbanks. Because the beach is long, it rarely feels crowded.

Best Season

The surf is fairly reliable for much of the year, but winter is the main season, with bigger and more regular swell. Spring and summer are usually windier, so the waves are often best early in the day.

Wind and Tide

Wind is the big factor here. Light winds or offshore winds (blowing from the land) give the cleanest waves. Strong afternoon wind often makes the sea choppy, which is when the kitesurfers arrive. Check a surf forecast and ask locally about the tide for the day.

Hazards

  • There are rocks in some parts of the beach.
  • Big winter swell can be too strong for beginners.
  • Currents can form between sandbanks.
  • There may be no lifeguards.

Tips for Beginners and Improvers

Start with lessons. A local instructor knows where the waves are gentle on the day. Smaller days are best for learning. If you already surf, ask about board hire and surf in the morning.

There are other surf spots along the coast between Essaouira and Agadir. Ask local surfers or a surf school which ones suit the conditions and your level.
