Discover Sidi Kaouki
Sidi Kaouki Village
A small village about 25 km south of Essaouira, named after a local saint. Life here is quiet and follows the sea, the farms and the seasons.

Where Is Sidi Kaouki?
Sidi Kaouki is in Essaouira Province, in the Marrakesh-Safi region of Morocco. It is about 25 km south of Essaouira, around 30 minutes by road.
It is a rural commune, which means it includes the village by the beach and the small villages in the countryside around it. At the 2004 census the commune had about 4,300 residents.
The Saint and the Marabout
The village is named after Sidi Kaouki, a local saint. His tomb, the marabout, stands on the rocks at the north end of the beach. According to UN Tourism, the tomb dates from the late 19th century and people come from many places to visit it.
It is a religious place. Visit quietly, dress modestly and ask before taking photos of people.
Argan Country
The countryside around Sidi Kaouki is part of the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO. Argan trees grow here, and the knowledge and skills linked to the argan tree are on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Local families also make products such as honey, amlou (a spread made with argan oil, almonds and honey) and argan cosmetics.
Daily Life
Many local people work in fishing, farming and, more and more, tourism. The village has cafés, small restaurants, guesthouses and surf houses, but it is not a resort town. Some places close or open shorter hours outside the busy seasons.

Visiting Respectfully
