What to Expect

Most places to eat are small cafés and restaurants near the beach and in the village. Menus are short and based on Moroccan dishes. Some guesthouses also cook for their guests.

Outside the busy seasons, some places close or open shorter hours. Many guesthouses can prepare dinner if you ask in advance.

Dishes to Try

  • Tagine: slow-cooked meat, fish or vegetables
  • Grilled fish, depending on the day
  • Couscous, often on Fridays
  • Moroccan salads
  • Mint tea
  • Fresh orange juice

Local Products

The area is known for argan oil, honey and amlou, a spread made with argan oil, almonds and honey. Try them at breakfast or buy them from local producers.

Practical Tips

  • Bring cash. Cards are not accepted everywhere.
  • Tagines take time. Order early or ask in advance.
  • Alcohol is not served everywhere.
  • For more choice, Essaouira has many restaurants.

We do not take restaurant bookings. We will add places to eat once we have checked them in person.
