The Short Answer

Sidi Kaouki can be a good family beach day or a short stay, especially if your children like sand, horses and camels. It is not a resort with kids' clubs or playgrounds, and the sea is not always calm. With a few simple rules, it works well.

Beach and Sea Safety

  • Keep children close to you near the water. The beach is open to the ocean, with waves and currents.
  • Do not count on lifeguards.
  • Paddling at the edge is safest on calm days and at low tide. Ask locals if you are unsure.
  • Keep children away from the area where kites launch and land, and away from kite lines.
  • Let horses and camels pass calmly. Children should not run up behind them.

Sun and Wind

The wind makes it feel cooler than it is, so children can get sunburnt without noticing. Use strong sun cream, sun hats with a strap and long-sleeved tops. Bring a warm layer for the late afternoon. On very windy days, sand blows around, so plan the beach for the morning.

Facilities

Facilities are limited. There are a few cafés near the beach, but no beach showers or baby-changing rooms that we can confirm. Bring water, snacks, wipes and anything special your children need. The nearest bigger shops and pharmacies are in Essaouira.

Getting There With Children

A private taxi, a transfer or a hire car is easiest with children, buggies and bags. If you need a child seat, ask the transfer company or car hire company before you book. Shared taxis and buses are possible, but less comfortable with small children. See how to get there.

Planning Your Family Day

Arrive in the morning, play on the beach before the wind gets strong, have an early lunch and book a calm activity in the afternoon. For a longer stay, a holiday rental with a kitchen often works well. See where to stay.
