The Short Answer
If you are staying in Essaouira and you like open beaches, a day in Sidi Kaouki is worth it. It feels very different from the town: more space, fewer people and a slower pace. If you want to surf or kitesurf for several days, it is better to stay overnight.
Go If…
- You want a big, quiet beach for a long walk.
- You would like to try a horse ride, camel ride, quad or a surf lesson.
- You want to see the marabout and a small village away from the city.
Maybe Skip It If…
- You only have one day in Essaouira and have not seen the medina yet.
- You want a calm sea for swimming. Sidi Kaouki has waves and currents.
- You dislike wind. Afternoons are often windy.
How Much Time Do You Need?
| Time | What fits |
|---|---|
| Half a day | A beach walk to the marabout, tea in a café, the sunset |
| A full day | All of the above, plus lunch and one activity |
| Two days or more | Several surf or kite sessions, slower days, a calm evening |
Getting There and Back
You can go by grand taxi, local bus, hire car or private transfer. The most important part of a day trip is the return: buses are not frequent, and taxis may not wait around in the evening. Agree a pickup time with your driver, or check the time of the last bus before you leave Essaouira. Details in how to get to Sidi Kaouki.
