The Short Answer
Most places to stay are small guesthouses, surf houses and holiday rentals. Choice is limited, evenings are quiet and there are only a few places to eat, so book ahead in busy periods and ask about dinner before you arrive.
Why Stay Overnight?
- Calm early mornings, often the best time for surfing and walking
- The sunset without worrying about the last bus
- Time for two activities, or two surf sessions
- Very quiet nights

Choosing a Place
| Type | Best for |
|---|---|
| Guesthouse | Couples and quiet stays, often with breakfast |
| Surf house | Surfers, solo travellers, groups |
| Holiday rental | Families and longer stays with a kitchen |

What to Ask Before You Book
- How far is it from the beach and the village?
- Is breakfast included? Can they cook dinner?
- Is there hot water, and heating in winter?
- How do I pay: cash or card?
- Is there wifi, and how reliable is it?
- Can they help arrange a taxi?
- If you surf: is there board storage and a place to rinse wetsuits?
Evening Food
There are only a few cafés and restaurants, and some keep shorter hours outside the busy seasons. Many guesthouses cook dinner for guests if you ask in advance. If you rent a place with a kitchen, buy food in Essaouira, as the village shops only sell basics.

Arriving and Leaving
Plan to arrive in daylight, as the village and roads are dark at night. Tell your host your arrival time. For leaving, arrange a taxi or check the bus time the day before. See visiting without a car.
What to Bring
- Cash in small notes
- A warm layer for the evening
- A torch or phone light
- Earplugs, if you sleep lightly (wind)
- Any medicine you need
- Snacks for early mornings
